Notify popups

Added by Debbie V almost 2 years ago

I have AdiIRC installed on both my laptop and my desktop.

On my laptop, when someone in my notify list logs on/off I get a notification in the server window and if AdiIRC is not focused I also get a popup similar to when i get a PM.

However, on my desktop I do not get any of those indications. I've scrubbed through all my settings and I can't find what's different to cause this, and I've even gone as far as copying the contents of my local app data from my laptop to my desktop to try and get it to work.

What options should I be looking for, so that I am getting the same notifications on both machines?

The popup notifications are called "Tips", check Options -> Tips, specifically the "Other" -> "Notify" checkbox.

I double checked that - tips are enabled as well as notify.

I am also not getting online/offline notifications in the server window on desktop. Could that be related?

Yes, if AdiIRC is not receiving the online/offline messages from the server, AdiIRC wouldn't know if a user was online or offline.

Maybe double check that you have the nicks in your Notify list on your desktop and that it is enabled.

You can also use Menubar -> Rawlog to see if the online/offline messages are sent to adiirc, see https://dev.adiirc.com/boards/1/topics/1026?r=2120#message-2120 for what to look for.

Notify list is populated and enabled.

I can see the ISON command in the rawlog and it is getting the incoming lines when it shows someone is online.

The notify window and Treebar are both accurate and showing when someone is online

ISON is mostly used on very old networks, do you see any difference in Rawlog between your desktop and laptop?

Are you by any chance connected to a bouncer such as ZNC with multiple clients at the same time?

RE: Notify popups - Added by Debbie V almost 2 years ago

I use UnderNet and DALNet mostly. DALNet is using the WATCH command, Undernet seems to be using ISON.

I run one instance of Adi, and if I want to connect to both servers I do it within Adi and just have it open a new connection to the 2nd server.

It's the same setup that I run on the laptop and it was working previously on the desktop, but I did a re-install of Adi a few months back for some reason i can't remember and its been wrong since then.

Both are running ver 4.2

Watching the Rawlog on both machines connected to the same servers they seem to be generating the same messages as far as i can see.

Thanks for testing, this is very strange.

A couple more question, do you see Tips notification and/or server window notifications from notify nicks on the DALNet server?

Also do you use any scripts/plugins on the desktop which you are not using on the laptop?

I'll think about it some more and possible make a debug build which should give more information about what's going on, I'll let you know.

No scripts or plugins on either machine.

Tips and server window are not showing notify nicks for either sever.

I also noticed that Treebar isn't updating for notify. This isn't something I normally use, I normally just keep the Notify window open. The notify window is accurate to who is online, but when i was on today Treebar wasn't updating when someone went offline. So Treebar showed them as still online, but the Notify window showed them offline and if a ran a /whois they showed as offline. It was also showing them offline in the Rawlog.

Make a copy of your current AdiIRC.exe, then replace the original with this one https://adiirc.com/build/1666788017/AdiIRC.exe

Make sure Rawlog is open, then connect to the server with the problem, when the problem occurs, check Rawlog -> Debug tab and copy all lines containing "Notify" and either paste them here or email it to me at .

For privacy you can replace nicks with random text, just make sure it's the same random text for the same nick in all the debug messages.

Should give some clues about what's going on.
