A tiny suggestion

Added by Asen Anastassov almost 12 years ago

Hi there,

AdiIRC is a nice IRC client, what I miss (although not of great importance) is an option for showing a button for Channels/Rooms in the ToolBar or in the ChannelBar so that I won't need to type commands and will be able to open the channels list directly from the AdiIRC interface by clicking the Channels/Rooms button. I suggest this feature as a customization option of the ToolBar/ChannelBar.

I hope I have not failed to notice a similar option.

Regards,

Asen

I added this feature in the latest beta, you have to right click the toolbar and choose "Edit Toolbar" then drag it down to the toolbar.

Also the icon is the same as the serverlist for now, i don't have much graphical skills :)

If you are on a stable version and want to use the beta, go to Options -> General and mark "Check periodically for beta versions" :)

Cheers!

Hi there,

Thank you for taking my suggestion into consideration and for implementing it immediately.

I have just tested the latest beta (1.8.10 Build 250412), it works as described, well-done. By the way there is a small problem, once added to the ToolBar, the Channel List icon cannot be dragged back to the Edit Toolbar bar, when I tried to do it the Edit Toolbar bar minimized and therefore there was no way to remove the Channel List icon from the ToolBar. By the way the same happened when I dragged the Search Engine icon to the ToolBar, it cannot be removed from there. Perhaps the Edit Toolbar bar should be able to stay on top so that it would be possible to drag icons freely to Toolbar and back to Edit Toolbar.

It won't be bad if the Channel List icon differs a little bit from the Server List one, perhaps in colour or style, thus it would be visually easier to discern between the Channel List and Server List icons without hovering the mouse cursor over the Channel List/Server List icons. But of course this is a minor problem.

Another small possible change- since MSN Search is now called Bing both the search engine and the icon in the Search Bar inside AdiIRC might be changed to Bing. By the way I would suggest that you add nother search engine- DuckDuckGo:

https://duckduckgo.com/ - DuckDuckGo Home Page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DuckDuckGo - DuckDuckGo at Wikipedia

Have a nice day and all the best,

Asen

I agree with you completely, the edit toolbar have been low on the TODO and I am not satisfied with the drag/drop support, I am gonna improve it.

For now you can right click the elements and choose "Remove".

And yes I am gonna ask a friend to make a better icon for the channel list eventually :)

Good catch for the search bar, it's been a while since i updated it, ill do that shortly and also add duckduckgo.

Cheers!

Hello,

I have just tested the latest beta release and everything seems fine, the 'Edit Toolbar' bar stays on top, and the serach engines are updated. Well done, thanks. I like AdiIRC even thoughs it is .NET-based;)

I have another question- why when I right-click on a particular channel in the channel bar and then click 'Close' the chanel continues to reside in the channel bar. My understanding for 'Close' is that the user leaves the channel so it should no longer be visible in the channel bar. Am I wrong? Or perhaps there might be a 'Disconnect and Close' command?

Have a nice week-end.

Does this happen every time you try to close a window?

I know sometimes randomly a window wont close properly, but it's hard to track down whats causing it, since its so random.

I'll do some more debugging on it :)

Also make sure you dont have "Minimize windows when pressing X" enabled.
