Highlight Function
Added by Mike McDermott over 4 years ago
Hi,
I can't seem to get this right. I have my background set to all black and I'm trying to highlight a nickname & message all white so it stands out but it's only highlighting the persons nickname when someone else types. How do you set it so the whole nickname & message are all white?
Thank you,
TD

Not sure I understand what you mean, if you are talking about Options -> Highlights, it only triggers when other people mentions your specified nick or word, not when you mention yourself.

Hi,
Thank you for the reply. What I mean is I want other peoples names highlighted in white (the nicknames that I have set for that) when they type something in a main channel or in a private chat.

You say "the nicknames that I have set for that", where exactly have you set nicknames?
RE: Highlight Function - Added by Mike McDermott over 4 years ago
In Options -> Highlights, you can add nicknames just under "Flash main window/taskbar on".

Okay. but highlights is for highlighting messages containing your nick or specified trigger words, it does not trigger for the remote/sender nick.
You probably want to look into Options -> Nick Colors instead.

Yes, that is the right place, but it's still not highlighting the nick and message. What settings should I have it set to?

Something like this:

Thank you for the screenshot. So if I have the "Nick Color:" set as white and the "Background" set as white it should work then?

Leave the background on the jagged pattern as in the screenshot, only change the Nick Color to white.

Ok thank you, I'll give it a shot.

Is there any way to extend the amount of text that is kept in a main channel ie. how far the text goes back?

Check Options -> Messages -> Max buffer.

Ok thanks, I'll give it a try. Thanks for all your help!
RE: Highlight Function - Added by Mike McDermott over 4 years ago
Just curious, what is the maximum buffer you can use?
RE: Highlight Function - Added by Per Amundsen over 4 years ago
There is really no limit, but making the max buffer bigger slows AdiIRC down and it will consumes more memory/ram.
RE: Highlight Function - Added by Mike McDermott over 4 years ago
Thank you. I set it at 10,000 which I think is excessive. What buffer setting would you recommend using? I would like it to go back at least a day.
Also, is there a command that will highlight and flash the channel when someone you have highlighted types a message?
Thanks again.

Set it at whatever you like, if AdiIRC becomes slow or use too much memory. lower it.
You can kinda abuse the highlight system to alert you when someones sends a message, although that is not the intended behavior for highlights.
Here is an example, notice that the highlight text is .* and the Regex checkbox is marked and the Nick or address is specified.
You can adjust the other options as you see fit but I would avoid using colors here.
